- Active dry yeast2 1/4 teaspoons
- Granulated sugar1/2 cup
- Ground cardamom2 teaspoons
- Salt1 teaspoon
- Milk1 cup
- Unsalted butter1/4 cup

- Swedish pearl sugar2 tablespoons

In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, cardamom, and salt.
In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm (120-130°F). Add to dry ingredients.
Add eggs and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
Gradually add remaining flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Punch down dough and divide into four equal pieces.
Roll each piece into a 12-inch rope.
Pinch the ropes together at one end. Braid the ropes together, following a four-strand braid technique. (Right over middle, left over middle). Pinch the ends to seal.
Place the braid on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a small bowl, whisk the remaining egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the braid.
Sprinkle with Swedish pearl sugar.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.
