- Buttermilk1 cup
- Blackberry jam1 cup
- Vanilla extract1 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter1/2 cup
- Brown sugar1 cup
- Heavy cream1/4 cup
- Powdered sugar3 cups

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a small bowl, combine the buttermilk and blackberry jam.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the caramel icing: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and gradually beat in the powdered sugar until smooth.
Pour the caramel icing over the cooled cake. Let the icing set before slicing and serving.
