Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour2 1/2 cups
  • Instant yeast2 1/4 teaspoons
  • Sugar1 teaspoon
  • Salt1 teaspoon
  • Warm milk1 cup
  • Plain yogurt1/4 cup
  • Vegetable oil2 tablespoons
  • Garlic3 cloves
  • Vegan butter4 tablespoons
  • Fresh cilantro2 tablespoons

In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, yogurt, and oil.

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

While the dough is rising, prepare the garlic butter. Mince the garlic and chop the cilantro.

Melt the vegan butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped cilantro.

Once the dough has doubled, punch it down and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces.

Roll each piece into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Lightly brush the skillet with oil.

Place one naan bread onto the hot skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly puffed up.

Brush the cooked naan bread with the garlic butter and serve immediately.

Repeat with the remaining dough.
