Method

Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Stir in the sugar, bourbon, and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved.

Once the cake is out of the oven, immediately poke holes all over the top of the cake with a wooden skewer or toothpick.

Slowly pour the warm glaze over the hot cake, allowing it to soak in completely.

Let the cake cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving.
